Why Thrifting for My Daughter Feels Better Than Buying New
I’ve gotten into the habit of wanting to buy nice clothes for my daughter. I love dressing her up, but it’s hard to keep up with financially, and she’s just a kid. She’ll end up ruining the clothes anyway.
Why We Started Thrifting
Lately, I’ve been thrifting my 4-year-old daughter’s clothes. She goes up a size every couple of months, and I’d rather spend less while still finding pieces that feel good and last. Thrifting is the only way we shop now. I’ve been able to find shoes, dance clothes, dresses, and everyday outfits.
Quality, Sustainability, and Smarter spending
I try to only buy 100% cotton or linen. They’re natural and perfect for those with sensitive skin. I end up finding unique pieces that fit our needs and are way better than what you’d find in stores.
It also feels good from a sustainability side. I’m not buying into fast fashion or wasting money on things she may only wear a couple of times. Instead, I’m buying used and saving money.
Letting Go of Perfect
Honestly, I’ve stopped caring about keeping up or making her look “put together.” She’s four, she’s going to spill juice and roll in the grass. Thrifted clothes take the pressure off, they’ve already lived a little, so I don’t have to stress when she does. There’s something freeing about not chasing after the “nice” stuff anymore. I used to scroll online for hours looking for the perfect outfit, but I don’t miss it. Now it’s about comfort, ease, and not trying so hard all the time.
